De La Lleca al Cohue

is a Venezuelan-born photographer and conceptual artist living and working in the United States. She studied photography in Mexico City and completed her MFA in 2023 at the University of Houston. Drawing on her experiences as a queer woman and Venezuelan immigrant of Lebanese descent in the United States, her work builds on social and economic vulnerability as a source for creative and political empowerment. Through her practice, Bule takes a critical look at power dynamics shaping everyday life, underscoring the entanglement of capitalism, economic inequality, and structural racism in interrelated patterns of migration, incarceration, identity politics, nationalism, and social justice. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is in important private and institutional collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Colección Mercantil in Caracas. Among other awards, she received the Soma Summer grant by the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (2014), and an artist in residency at Cornell University, hosted by the Department of Romance Studies (2022).

is an art historian specializing in photography and print culture in Ibero-America, with an MA from Hunter College (2012) and a Ph.D. from New York University (2019). As a researcher at the Lateinamerika-Institut / Freie Universität Berlin, his work focuses on the production and circulation of photographic images, emphasizing questions of gender, mobility, and cultural exchange. His doctoral dissertation at NYU examined the careers of exiled Jewish photographers Kati Horna in Mexico and Grete Stern in Argentina, with close attention to their mobile positions across networks of cultural production. His curatorial experience includes "Told and Untold: The Photo Stories of Kati Horna in the Illustrated Press," the first exhibition in the United States dedicated to the work of the Hungarian-born Mexican photographer, held at Americas Society (New York) in 2016. Among other institutional projects, he has collaborated with the Reina Sofía Museum's online portals "Rethinking Guernica" and "Front and Rearguard: Women in the Spanish Civil War." Otayek’s current book project – Culture Brokers: Ethnographic Photography by European Women in Latin America – considers photography's mediating role in contexts of unequal conviviality by tracing the production and transnational circulation of photographic images in advocacy for indigenous rights in Central and South America.
